All it takes is about a week off the grid to come to appreciate the ability to communicate with the outside world. And all it takes is about ten seconds of that communication to wish you'd never left Aladambama.
For those who don't know or care, my lovely (and dangerous) wife and I spent the Christmas hollerdaze at my sister's abandoned lake home in Alabama. The place has a lot of charm, as well as a great view of a cove in Smith Lake. But what it doesn't have is internet, or cell coverage for T-Mobile folks. So for five or six days we did without computers and phones.
We didn't miss much, apparently.
Now that we're back in Murfreesboro, life is back to normal. I opened today's The Tennessean (motto: "We know what you people want!") and was greeted by a full front page story explaining the paper's choice for Tennessean of the Year: Taylor Swift.
