After years of treating every carry-on object as a potential weapon, the Transportation Safety Administration has relaxed rules preventing passengers taking small pocketknives onto airplanes. After all, who would think to use a knife as a weapon on a plane, right?
But you're still not allowed to carry a bottle of water or shampoo onto the plane, 'cause that's just crazy talk. Should have washed your hair at home, stupid! And take off your shoes, Grandma, we're not sure about those orthopedic clogs you're wearing.
Meanwhile, one of our esteemed state Senators has decided that his daughter won't feel safe on the streets of Nashville unless she's allowed to tote around a spring-loaded switchblade for defense. Seriously. Mace, stun guns, pepper sprays? Nope. She needs to be equipped for the rumble scene in West Side Story or he's not going to be able to sleep at night from worry.
Of course, Sen. Mike Bell (R-we don't elect any other brand in Tennessee- Riceville) says it's our Constitutional right to bear knives, or swords, or machetes, under the protections afforded to us by the Second Amendment.
"I also believe that our right to keep and bear arms should include knives."
Wonder how long it will take before someone tries to carry a switchblade onto a plane from Nashville's International Airport?
We're so proud...

Ahhh .... I can see it now .... A "well trained militia" marching in close order drills ... brandishing .... switchblades. A Tennessee version of Jets vs Sharks set to clogging music. I'm beginning to believe yer "We're so proud" isn't really heartfelt these days, Squatty .......
Shit, Beej, what gave it away?
"When you're a Jet you're a Jet all the way, from your first cigarette to your last dying day!"
I'm surprised no one added an amendment to Bell's bill making it legal to carry extended magazines full of tiny nail clippers...
Like Barney used to say, "(S)nip it in the bud!"
Ah Kansas not far behind, or maybe ahead, we got a bill passed a few days ago claiming that Kansas law trumps federal law at the airport, claims specifically in Kansas TSA cannot pat you down if you don't want to be patted down. Call 911 as soon as the metal detector barks, have TSA arrested before they find the 38 in your pants.
I really don't think any city cop wants to end up in this court case of obstructing airport security by marching the TSA crew off in handcuffs. We're off to see the wizard............
Fringe, we're already moving a bill out of committee that would make it illegal for federal agents to arrest someone for a gun offense within Tennessee's borders. As a matter of fact, the law would call for feds to register with individual sheriff's offices each time they entered a new county in Tenn. Beat that?
Did that a month ago, the FBI can be arrested for taking a gun from a bank robber in Kansas.
