BILLY JOEL SINGS ALONG AS VANDY STUDENT PLAYS "NEW YORK STATE OF MIND" ON HIS PIANO

This is getting a little strange... Yesterday I posted a vid in which Johnny Carson of The Tonight Show asked if anyone in the audience wanted to come up and play the piano, and today I've just found a clip on Boing Boing that's even better.

Billy Joel was hosting "An Evening of Questions and Answers and a Little Bit of Music" at Vanderbilt University in Nashville back in January, when one of the students asked if he could play "New York State of Mind" with Joel.  Joel said "Okay" and here's a rough video of the moment.

You never know what hidden talent resides in the person next to you in a crowd...

Pretty cool, isn't it? Even with Joel hamming it up Sinatra-style...

For what it's worth, I saw Billy Joel back in the early 70's when he came to Nashville. Believe it or not, the only tour he made through this part of the country that year was as the opening act for Olivia Neutron Bomb. Hey, ya buys ya ticket, ya gets the show!
