A CUNNING LINGUIST? SERIOUSLY? (a head-turner of a headline...)

             I really should put my coffee down before I start surfing around on the web, 'cause some of the folks writing headlines to grab my attention might as well have a grip on my crotch as they work...

             I was looking at The Register and found this headline:
 

             "New cunning linguist computer has got ancient tongues licked"

 

 

             I didn't make that up.  That's the headline over an article about a computer program designed to translate proto languages, the "parent" tongues of modern languages.  The article itself is a boring tech essay, and I doubt anyone other than a professor of dead languages would bother to read it... but for the headline.  The headline alone will garner enough attention to get the writer promoted or fired, depending upon the sense of humor at The Register.

             I halfway expect the same guy to write an article about the differences between a tribe of pygmies (those cunning runts!) and a women's track team...
